Abstract

This study discusses a crucial phenomenon of changes in the style and technique of Acehnese calligraphy art that has undergone a significant transformation from manual tradition to digitalization. This issue is important because it illustrates the dynamics of local Islamic culture in the face of modernity and global technology that affect the form, function, and aesthetic meaning of calligraphy. The purpose of this study is to analyze the process of changing techniques, placements, and materials in the art of calligraphy in Aceh and its implications for the cultural identity and spiritual values of the community. The research was conducted with a qualitative approach through visual observations, interviews with artists, and literature studies on traditional and digital calligraphy artifacts. The results of the study show a shift from manual to digital techniques, from placement on tombstones to public spaces and mosques, and from natural materials to synthetic materials. In conclusion, digitalization brings revitalization of the expression of Acehnese calligraphy art without erasing its spiritual roots. This research recommendation emphasizes the importance of collaboration between artists, academics, and cultural institutions in maintaining the continuity of traditional values in the digital era.
